Sensemaking & Research Design
What makes good instruction and how can we design instruction in a way that meets the needs of the learner? Those were guiding questions for this course, which was intended to help us identify the needs of our learners and design a technology integration unit plan.
Instructional Design Process
My colleague, Kathy Newman, and I were asked to present M. David Merrill's "A Pebble-In-The-Pond Model for Instructional Design." Embedded below is our VoiceThread.
Instructional Model
I created this VoiceThread in order to present my "Driving Question" to my classmates. I eventually changed directions, but this question remains useful and meaningful for me, as hope to be able to support my colleagues in the further integration of technology into their curriculum.

Technology Integration Unit PlanHere is an outline a plan for integrating Web 2.0 presentation applications into a unit for which students will become the "experts" in a particular literary device or literary analysis skill and present to the class. The student presentations are intended to provide the "flip" and are viewed for "homework" in order to prepare students to fully participate in class.

Prototypes for Tech Integration Unit PlanHere is a prototype of a Prezi I made to demonstrate what I wanted the student presentations to look like. In addition to giving access to this Prezi through Edmodo, we were able to discuss the presentation and how it covered key ideas that could be recorded in Cornell Note format.
Here is a student group presentation which was also posted in Edmodo so that fellow students could view it for homework and take notes. |
Review and Reflection on Tech Integration Unit plan
I found this review and reflection process to be immensely helpful in terms of discovering whether my students and I had been successful in strategically using technology to achieve a specific goal. I feel good about this unit, but also have been able to identify key areas that need further refinement.

Book ReviewFor my book review project I chose to read John Medina's Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School. In addition to the book, there is an excellent website that provides 3-4 minute videos explaining each of the 12 rules that can help us make the most of the 2 lb. miracle that resides between our ears.
